Our resident 'Chopper' had a varied career, originally a Scottish loco and moving South again in 1973. In the early 1990's 20087 helped with the Channel Tunnel rail link, being one the Class 20s hired to RFS Engineering and was breifly based at French depot Coquelles, near Calais. 20087 arrived at the ELR in 1999, sporting 'Canton TMD' on both bufferbeams. The loco had been used there as a testbed for remote control systems which were later installed on Class 08 shunters by the Canton team.

The '20' was restored to running order in 2000 and ran in BR Green as D8087 until withdrawal 2004 for engine and bodywork repairs. It returned in 2007 in standard BR Blue livery. The loco has been improved steadily over the years becoming a much stronger and more reliable performer.

20087 proved very popular along with four other locos which visited the Mid Hants Railway's diesel gala during April 2013.
