Despite having many visiting 'Tractors' over the years, the ELR diesel fleet long had a 37 shaped gap in the resident fleet. This was filled with the arrival of 37109 in 2008 which came direct from EWS in their maroon livery.

37109 made its Gala debut at the July event of the same year and ran for 18 months or so before receiving a repaint into BR Blue. Always a popular performer, 37109 is run up often and is operational during the non-heat season and at Gala events.

37109 left the ELR during Summer 2013, visiting the Nene Valley Railway for their May Gala and spending a couple of months at the Severn Valley Railway before returning home to Bury in October.

Following installation of new batteries, October 2014 saw another visit to the Severn Valley Railway for 37109 along with fellow ELR resident, 50015 Valiant, for the SVR Diesel Gala.

Another visit to the Nene Valley Railway occurred in 2019 with 109 working at thier Diesel Event over the 11th-13th of October.

Winter 2019/20 saw the nose-end doors reinstated. As with many of the split-box survivors, these had been removed and welded over during previous maintenance with BR or EWS. Further substantial bodywork repairs have been undertaken during Winter 2022/23 plus a full repaint into Trainload Metals livery and will be relaunched during 2023. It looks rather nice!
